Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)
The Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is based on the Lean Manufacturing principles like the standard work, 5S, Kaizen, among others. It also draws on some maintenance methods like:
- Preventive Maintenance - This includes the predictive maintenance as well as the periodic maintenance
- Breakdown Maintenance - It regards to fixing up things when they break down
- Corrective Maintenance - This refers to making improvements to the equipment so that it can continue to work without any problems
- Maintenance Prevention - This includes studying the existent machines and equipment to try to predict possible failures, prevent defects, and make maintenance easier.
The Total Productive Maintenance is different from the routine maintenance because this last one only takes care of minor repairs that are usually carried out by the operators themselves.
